Calm and Secure Puppies

My goal for each and every one of my puppies is to be healthy and happy.  That means finding it the perfect home and making that transition as seamless and comfortable as possible.  I like to send each puppy home with a homemade "security blanket".  Each blanket is handmade by my niece from PrettyPuppies, then rubbed on the puppy's litter mates.  This provides a familiar smell and a sense of security for each puppy as they are introduced into their new home.  I also like to add a drop of Young Living Lavender or Peace & Calming II essential oil to their blanket, this helps them relax and stay calm during their transition.  For more information about the essential oils I use with my puppies check out my link, https://www.youngliving.org/wbyorkies.

My Puppy "Trainers"

My grandkids LOVE coming to visit me!  I used to think it was because I was so much fun, but I am starting to think it's because they love the puppies (and the puppies love them back).  Whenever Ava and Noah are at my house, the first thing they want to do is go visit the dogs and "help" me with my chores.  Well, there are only so many things a 4 year old and 2 1/2 year old can do to help.  We usually feed the dogs together or hand out special treats, in fact, all the dogs get excited to see Ava and Noah because they know that the distribution of treats is likely to happen!  And I'm sure the dogs feel as if they've won the lottery when little Noah hands out the treats with his generous heart and hands.  Other times we will just let all the puppies out to play, Ava and Noah will sit on the ground with them and the puppies just love them to pieces and vice versa.

This last week we decided to try something a little different.  My niece makes custom harnesses and leashes for the puppies (you can find them at prettypuppies.net and in my office).  So we decided to test the harnesses out!  The kids and the puppies loved it. Well, for sure the kids did, the puppies might have been a little hesitent but they caught on quickly.  Here are a couple videos I shot.

Leading the puppies back to the kennel.

The thing that I love about these harnesses is how easy they are on the puppy.  These two puppies have never been on a leash nor have my grandkids ever led a puppy this small. They all figured it out rather quickly and the puppies didn't get choked like they would with a collar. So now, not only are my grandkids my little helpers but they are my puppy trainers too (wink, wink).

My New Puppy Shampoo

I finally found a shampoo I absolutely LOVE!

Young Living's Animal Scents, it has all natural ingredients, including 5 therapeutic-grade essential oils. These oils are:

Citronella - a natural deodorant and insect repellent.

Lavandin - is antifungal, antibacterial, antiseptic and tissue regenerative.

Lemon - helps promote leukocyte (formation of white blood cells).

Geranium - improves blood flow, regenerates tissue and nerves, and cleans oily skin.

Spikenard - is antibacterial and antifungal and helps with staph infections.

I've noticed the scent has a calming affect on my puppies.  Generally they don't like their first bath but when I use this shampoo they seem more calm.  A little goes a long way!  I dilute it half and half with water and I still see the same positive results, soft shiny coat and an excellent moisturizer for their skin (no need for conditioner with this shampoo).

Check out my Young Living website to order this shampoo and some of the other products I love to use on my dogs.

Puppy picture day with my granddaughter

Summer is my favorite time of the year because when my grandchildren come to visit they get to play with the puppies in the yard.  Today my grandaughter came to visit.  She is two years old, and just starting to feel comfortable around dogs.  As the puppies and Ava began to warm up to eachother we had to teach Ava how to set the puppies down softly.
